How do you cut the sides of a shirt open?
To start, draw a line down one side of your shirt, starting at the seam beneath your arm and going down the other side. Cutting along this line will allow the shirt’s sides to expand up somewhat. Make the line as long as the opening on the side of the garment that you want to be visible.
How do you sew a split side seam?
- Pin your side seams together with the right sides together. Place your needle and thread through the side seams, stopping at the point that indicates where to begin the slit. Remove 3/8″ (2.5 cm) from the side seam allowance, but stop 1″ (2.5 cm) before the end of the stitching line. The raw edges of the side seam should be serged or zigzagged together to prevent the fabric from fraying.
